Challenge
SPF-grade laboratory mice are a risk category 2 biological material, and live animals compress every timeline.
The shipment triggered inspection both at the port of entry and again at the destination — two separate procedures that, run one after the other, take long enough that the animals are at real risk from stress and confinement. A delay does not damage this cargo, it ends it, and with it the schedule of the laboratory waiting for the animals.
Approach
We handled the entry quarantine approval for the category, then worked the two inspections in parallel rather than in series. Engaging the port and destination authorities together settled standards and timing in advance, so that neither round of checks duplicated the other.
Through transfer, inspection and handover we kept the animals’ holding conditions under continuous control.
Outcome
The mice cleared both inspections and were delivered to the laboratory alive and in good condition, in time for the study.
